Georgia returns from an 11-day layoff for their first ever meeting with UMass Saturday in Amherst, Massachusetts.
The Bulldogs have won three straight games and are off to a 7-1 start which is their best start since the 2006-07 season. Georgia defeated a ranked Saint Mary’s team in the consolation round of the Wooden Legacy tournament and then knocked off Marquette on the road a few days later. They returned home for a much harder than anticipated 87-82 win at home over Winthrop but again showed poise down the stretch and were able to avoid what would have been a damaging upset.
The Minutemen enter the game with a 5-5 record but have won two straight with victories over Holy Cross and Providence. They are led by 5-10 sophomore guard Luwane Pipkins who is averaging 18.9 points and shooting 37 percent from three-point range.
