College football gets off to a less than roaring start this week with a limited slate of games that are, nonetheless, at least better than nothing.
Afternoon Delights
The marquee game of the afternoon slate, to use the term loosely, is the Notre Dame/Navy game being played across the pond in Dublin. It’s a 2:30 eastern/7:30 local start on NBC that shouldn’t test the #13 Fighting Irish too much. It will however feature gratuitous crowd shots of Dubliners who may not know Rick Mirer from Dickie Mountbatten. But again, better than nothing.
The Night Caps
Vanderbilt hosts Hawaii at 7:30 on SEC Network in the only football game this weekend featuring one of our conference coevals. Would I enjoy the Commodores losing this one? Sure. But I have a sneaking suspicion the Fightin’ Clark Leas are going to be a less bad than usual 4-8 team this season, and this will be one of the 4.
Elsewhere #6 Southern Cal hosts San Jose State at 9:00 pm on the PAC-12 Network (which I assume is now just run by a lonely hamster named Clarence and his human sidekick Chet in a basement apartment in Oxnard). PAC-12 After Dark may not be long for this world. Better soak it up while you can.
The full slate can be found here for those interested.
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
