It’s G Day! How To Watch, How to Stream, What to Look For

NCAA Football: CFP National Champions-Georgia Celebration Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Your national champion Georgia Bulldogs will kick off the annual G Day spring game this afternoon at 4:00 pm Athens time. The festivities will be broadcast on ESPN2 with Bulldog great Matt Stinchcomb, Taylor Zarzour, and Alyssa Lang providing commentary. The game can also be streamed on the WatchESPN app with a subscription.

As usual the squad will be broken up into a Red team and a Black team, with the first team offense and second team defense in the red, while the second team offense and first team defense will comprise the black team.

The pregame will see the rare and solemn “passing of the collar” ceremony from Uga X to “Boom”, soon to be known as Uga XI. The outgoing dog retires as the winningest mascot in Georgia history, and the only one to preside over back-to-back national titles. A Damn Good ‘Dawg indeed.

Once the game begins we’ll see obviously be paying attention to the quarterbacks, a race for snaps in the defensive secondary, and some young players and transfers at receiver looking to step into the shoes of departing ‘Dawgs. There’s also a solid battle to see who will replace Broderick Jones at left tackle, as well as a host of young defensive linemen looking to make a name for themselves. G Day never really tells the whole story, but it does sometimes provide a hint of what’s to come in the fall. So we’ll be taking notes.

But mostly, we’ll be enjoying a fine sunny day in the Classic City. So pull up a chair, pop a top, and feel free to hold forth on the action. This will also serve as our open comment/stats update thread for the afternoon. Until later….

Go ‘Dawgs!
