The first two days of SEC media days have been pretty much what she would expect, coaches asked about their rosters, schedules, and the changing face of college football.
This morning at 10:30 AM Georgia Bulldog head coach Kirby Smart will get his turn in front of the microphone, and the questions are likely to be pretty interesting. Smart made some headlines yesterday speaking at the Texas High School Coaches Association, worrying that NIL may have become a case of too much money, too fast for some players, and implying that the grueling visit schedule under the new recruiting calendar was enough to make him consider walking away from his post. I think that was probably a bit of hyperbole. But it does point to a real issue for a lot of coaches, one which some lifelong assistants especially are responding to by getting out of the game. It will be interesting to see if anyone asks Kirby, long reputed to be one of the most dogged recruiters in the game, whether he has any ideas to address the situaiton.
I wouldn’t expect any major news, such as roster moves, as Coach Smart has been pretty consistent in not using this platform to drop any bombs. Kirby’s SEC Media Days spot is the oatmeal with precisely half a teaspoon of brown sugar and three blueberries of coaching gabfests, just like I like it.
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
