Wednesday ‘Dawg Bites Is Waiting For A Star To Fall

Welcome to Wednesday, Bulldog Fans. We’re at mid-week, eagerly awaiting a traditional football game with it’s pomp and circumstance on Dooley Field inside of Sanford Stadium. Your Georgia Bulldogs are fresh off a victorious whoopin’ of the #3 ranked Clemson Tigers, where the Kirby Smart/Dan Lanning defense put on a performance for the ages. The entire nation is taking notice of this Junkyard Dawg iteration, putting Georgia on a possibly-not-quite-earned-just-yet pedestal. And as any Georgia fan knows deep down, this simply is not done. I will restrict my official Munsoning for a certain post coming later this week, but I can’t help but wonder if we’re just waiting for the Georgia star to fall...

Now onto news and notes of the Georgia Bulldog variety:

If there’s one thing we knew would happen, it’s Bulldog nose tackle Jordan Davis would cause some disruption. He did just that, while tallying 1 sacks, another tackle for loss, and another solo tackle. Those in the know also saw him fighting almost constant double-teams, and several triple-teams. Taking that for the team, Davis got some love from the Football Writers of America as the Bronko Nagurski Defensive Player of the Week. The SEC tempered their feelings just a bit, awarding Davis the conference Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week.

Winning overall SEC Defensive Player of the Week is the official ambassador of Dawg Sports Live, the inimitable Christopher Smith. Being the sole players to reach the end zone in a top 5 matchup on a national broadcast probably has something to do with that.

You might be surprised that Georgia also garnered an offensive player of the week for their performance against Clemson. Except it’s the football that’s really soccer, and it’s Molly Belisle of the Georgia Women’s Soccer program. She scored four goals for the week in wins vs. Wofford and Clemson. No word if she’s consulting with Jack Podlesny.

There isn’t much new coming out of Butts-Mehre on the injury front. We know that Tate Ratledge is done for the year, and that O-line shuffling is more of a certainty. Time will tell if Jamaree Salyer slides back to the right side, or if Xavier Truss or Broderick Jones get into the rotation against UAB.

And UAB isn’t exactly the cupcake where Matt Luke can just throw things together to see what works. The Red & Black takes a look at the lines for both the Blazers and the Bulldogs, and shows both UAB fronts are experienced and strengths of their program.

I haven’t seen the official count, but there were a LOT of recruits at Bank of America Stadium Saturday night. Having front row seats and watching the current ‘Dawgs eat like they did can only help matters. Rivals ($$) has an updated list of the targets and their leanings.
