Commit! Bulldogs Snag Pledge From Nation’s Top Tailback

After a brief respite Kirby Smart and his staff struck again this afternoon, picking up a commitment from perhaps the nation’s top tailback for 2022.

Branson Robinson, a 5’10, 220 pound back out of Madison, Mississippi (Germantown HS) chose the Red and Black this afternoon over offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Penn State, Tennessee, Southern Cal, and a host of others. Robinson is ranked the #4 running back in the nation for the upcoming cycle in the 247Composite, and #1 in America per Rivals.

Robinson churned out 1179 yards and 15 touchdowns on 121 carries as a junior in 2020. He’s got a thick lower body and looks generally able to handle the physical pounding of SEC football already. While Robinson isn’t necessarily a burner with elite top end speed, he is a punishing runner who makes a lot of his yards after contact.

Todd Monken has certainly been moving the UGA offense toward a more wide open, downfield attack. With that said, you still need guys who can move the sticks, and who can get tough yards when the defense has a good idea what’s coming. Robinson is that kind of old school tailback. While his footwork could still use some tightening up, he’s explosive once he finds a seam. I expect him to be a great complement to the Dawgs’ tailback rotation, and if he’s able to contribute in the passing game as a blocker and receiver, to eventually work into a featured role.

Robinson’s pledge moves Georgia into 6th in the 247Composite recruiting rankings with 12 commits in the class. That’s at least 3 fewer than any team in front of them. Stop me if you’ve heard this one, but it looks like “the Kirby close” (tm) May once again be beginning. Until later...

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
