Breaking: ESPN’s College Gameday is Heading to Georgia-Clemson Showdown Week One

Sources close to the program have told Dawg Sports that ESPN’s College Gameday will kickoff its 35th year by broadcasting live from Charlotte ahead of Georgia and Clemson’s season opening showdown in Bank of America Stadium.

The hype has been building since the schools agreed to the game last February, but the presence of College Gameday will add another layer to the big game atmosphere. The focus of the entire college football world was sure to be on the game anyways, but the presence of the sport’s premier pregame show is sure to add even more excitement to Georgia’s most anticipated season opener in decades.

The show last visited Charlotte for Clemson and Norte Dame’s battle in the ACC Championship Game last December. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, that broadcast did not include the usual crowd full of screaming fans. Barring unforeseen events, the broadcast will likely mark a return to normal for College Gameday.

The presence of the show coupled with the first week of full stadiums since the 2019 season is likely to result in an enthusiastic crowd. While it has not yet been announced where the show will broadcast from, it is worth noting that the show has aired from Romare Bearden Park in uptown Charlotte when broadcasting in front of a live audience in the past.

It is no surprise that the show has chosen to start the season at a game between traditional rivals who are both likely to be ranked in the Top 5. It also ensures that UGA alums and College Gameday cast members Maria Taylor and David Pollack will be onsite for Georgia’s opener.
