Robertson latest transfer during busy Bulldog offseason

NCAA Football: Tennessee at Georgia Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

When it comes to Georgia’s receiving corps the transfer portal giveth, and the transfer portal taketh away. Only a few days after the Bulldogs picked up a commitment from LSU receiver Arik Gilbert, they lost sixth year senior Demetris Robertson. Robertson entered the transfer portal Friday afternoon.

The Savannah native showed tremendous potential as a true freshman at Cal in 2017, hauling in 50 catches for 767 yards and 7 touchdowns. However following an injury that kept him out for 2017 Robertson never quite recaptured the magic that led him to be a five-star recruit and the top prep prospect in the state of Georgia in the class of of 2016. Robertson snagged a total of 42 receptions for 443 yards across 2019 and 2020.

While Robertson is among the best blockers in the UGA wide receiving group, and showed real flashes at times with the ball in his hands, the unit appears deep enough to sustain this loss. In fact, it’s no stretch to imagine that Robertson may be transferring in part order to get more touches than he would have an a crowded Bulldog unit. Here’s hoping things work out for him wherever he ultimately lands. Until later…
