Tyson Campbell’s a Jaguar!

NCAA Football: Georgia at Missouri Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

Well that didn’t take long. With the first pick in the second round of the NFL Draft the Jacksonville Jaguars have made cornerback Tyson Campbell the second Bulldog off the board.

After going offense with their two picks in round one, it looks like new Jags coach Urban Meyer and his staff are looking to shore up the secondary. The Jags have taken four cornerbacks in the last two years in the Draft, and 2020 pick CJ Henderson has shown promise at the position.

Campbell brings ideal size to the position, and ran a blistering sub 4.30 forty at his pro day. So the measurables are certainly there. But while Campbell started all ten games last season, and some as a true freshman, in between he struggled to maintain that position.

He also wasn’t terribly productive in Athens, snagging a total of one interception, despite being targeted pretty frequently opposite Deandre Baker and then Eric Stokes.

That being said, Campbell is reliable against the run, and with proper development and coaching could become a steady starter at corner for a Jacksonville team that needs secondary help.

Go ‘‘Dawgs!!!
