UGA keeps rolling with commit from top linebacker

Another day, another big pickup for the Dawgs’ 2022 class. Last week it was a pledge from instate five star Malaki Starks. This afternoon it was a commit from four star linebacker Jalon Walker, one of the top players in North Carolina.

Walker is rated the #50 player in the country, #4 outside linebacker, and #2 player in the Tarheel State per the 247Sports Composite rankings. Walker selected the Red and Black over finalists Clemson, North Carolina, and Alabama. Clemson has been perceived to be the leader for much of his recruitment, but lately Georgia pulled away in the crystal ball predictions.

The 6’2, 220 pound Salisbury native is a natural athlete who also excels on the basketball court, and in fact hopes to play both sports in college. He plays longer than his height, with good upper body length. He’s explosive, if a bit raw yet in terms of pass rushing technique. Based solely on the film I’ve seen Walker’s coverage skills are a bit uncertain as he’s been used more in zone/flat coverage or as a pass rusher.

Walker reminds me a little as a prospect of former Cairo standout Walter Grant, a guy who has contributed in a variety of roles during his UGA career. Like Grant I think he projects as an off the line linebacker in Georgia’s system, though I could also see him moving inside depending on the situation.

Walker becomes the tenth commitment for Kirby Smart’s 2022 class, moving the Red and Black’s #2 ranked group just a little closer to top-ranked Ohio State. Until later...

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
