Reports: UGA Linebacker Adam Anderson Under Investigation, Suspended

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: OCT 16 Kentucky at Georgia

Some disturbing allegations surfaced this afternoon regarding Georgia linebacker Adam Anderson, with both the AJC and Athens Banner Herald reporting that Anderson is currently under investigation by Athens-Clarke County authorities for an alleged rape occurring on October 29th.

No arrest has been made, and Anderson has not been formally charged. But the allegations are grave. According to both outlets cited above, a 21 year old woman woke in the early hours of Friday morning to find Anderson sexually assaulting her. She reported the incident to police later that day, stating that it was not consensual, but that she was able to leave the residence where the attack occurred.

Anderson traveled later that day to Jacksonville with the Bulldog football team, serving as one of four game captains against Florida, and recording a season high seven tackles.

Through his attorney, Anderson has denied all wrongdoing and asked the public not to prejudge him.

ESPN reported this evening that Anderson has been suspended from the team according to sources. While not confirming that Kirby Smart has released a statement, saying “we are aware of the report and we don’t comment on law enforcement matters, but I’ve been clear about the high standards we have for our student-athletes on and off the field,” Smart promised that his program “will be working closely with our administration to ensure we cooperate fully with all law enforcement and campus protocols.”

We’ll have more on the story as additional details emerge.
