I hate Mondays.
But I hate Florida more. And it’s the week when my hatred of Florida is focused like a Florida man trying to raise the money to pay his probation fees. Let’s get a grip on what’s going on in Bulldog Nation so we can go back to hating the Gators.
Georgia opens as a 14 point favorite in Jacksonville against the Gators, which seems about right to me. Florida’s loss to LSU leading into the bye week felt like the result of the Tigers finding something that worked and that Florida wasn’t prepared to adjust to.
Also Mullen may be an awful developer of quarterbacks and functionally incapable of sustaining program success. But he’s usually good to scheme up a couple of winning plays, especially with two weeks to do so.
Speaking of guys who lead to scheme issues, Kirby Smart talked recently about why Brock Bowers is such a problem for opposing coaches. It’s like this: he’s too big for opposing defensive backs and too fast for opposing linebackers. And he’ll be around for at least another two seasons.
Among the issues for Florida this season has been the inability to stop the run (the Gators are currently 7th in the SEC in rushing defense). One reason for that? What Thomas Goldkamp labels “a black hole” in their defensive line depth chart. Couldn’t happen to nicer folks.
Is Dan Mullen on the hot seat? Dan Mullen’s on the hot seat. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
Not on the hot seat? Bulldog defensive line coach Tray Scott. Scott has not only won every battle in sight on the recruiting trail, he’s developed Jordan Davis, Devonte Wyatt, Jalen Carter and others into a terrible force. I don’t know how long we’ll be able to hold onto Coach Scott, but I’m incredibly glad he and his charges are on our side this weekend. Until later...
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
