Kirby Smart and his staff received a verbal commitment today from one of the fastest rising prospects in the class of 2021.
Central-Phenix City wide receiver Jackson Meeks began receiving a lot of interest after a huge game against Alabama power Hoover High on August 25th. While his team fell 45-35, Meeks hauled in 13 catches for 233 yards and 3 touchdowns against a defense full of college prospects. Georgia offered within 24 hours, Ole Miss followed suit later that week.
Meeks is currently ranked as the #60 player in the state of Alabama and graded a three star recruit by 247Sports. I expect that to change in their next rankings. The 6’2, 190 pounder is playing both ways this season for new Central coach Patrick Nix (father of Auburn QB Bo Nix), whose son Caleb has taken over as Central’s quarterback.
The limited film from this season that I’ve seen has him looking a little more filled out and a lot more explosive than he did as a junior coming off a season-ending injury as a sophomore. Through two games Meeks has already racked up 360 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns on 22 catches.
With Meeks’ commitment Georgia moves up to #8 in 247Sports’ team rankings for 2021 with only 16 pledges and a bushel of elite prospects still on the board. After signing five receivers in the 2020 class Meeks and Antioch, Tennessee standout Adonai Mitchell may be the only receivers in this class (though it remains possible that another receiver high on the UGA recruiting board gets a spot depending on who comes aboard at other positions). Until later...
