We are a little more than 24 hours away from the Georgia Bulldogs kicking off their 2020 football season. Wow, that feels great to type.
As we approach kickoff, there is still a lot of unknown around this Bulldogs team, namely the quarterback position. It has been speculated that both J.T. Daniels and D’Wan Mathis will see playing time in Fayetteville on Saturday, and this would not surprise me either… unless somehow J.T. Daniels is not medically cleared to play.
Personally, I think Kirby Smart will roll with the hot hand, and I believe that hot hand will be D’Wan Mathis. By all accounts, he has played well in practices and scrimmages and has earned the trust and respect from the locker room. Look for Mathis to take the first snap on Saturday and perform quite well for the Dawgs.
Turning an eye towards the NFL, the Jets have protected Lawrence Cager as a member of the practice squad, meaning another team cannot sign him. The Jets have experienced several injuries to their wide receiver core, meaning Cager is likely to see his first NFL game action on Sunday. We will all remember the great memories Cager provided us in the 2019 season, particularly in Jacksonville, and I am happy to see him move past his injury problems to suit up on an NFL Sunday.
That’s all the news we have for now – the calm before the storm. I know you’re ready, Dawg Nation. Wash your hands, wear your masks, and GO DAWGS!!!
