Things throughout college football have certainly been changing a great deal in the last couple of days. Between conferences making decisions about the upcoming season, players letting their feelings about those decisions be known, and media members going after each other like a group of kindergartners badly in need of naptime, it’s easy to miss some of the smaller stories. Amidst all of the rapid change going on all around us, it’s nice to know that some things never change... like Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs steadliy rising to their rightful place atop the recruiting rankings.
While it might be nice to look at your “highly ranked” class a year before signing day and start that good, good pre-season smack talk, it’s much better to be able to do so once the ink dries on the LOIs. That’s okay though, I’m sure our brethren from Gainesville will still be just as happy as they watch themselves drop down, down, down over the course of the fall. Georgia, meanwhile, will be watching that number tick up, up, up as the Bulldogs fill a number of available recruiting slots.
In fact, the Bulldogs jumped a spot in the rankings just yesterday as they earned the commitment of the #3 tight end in the country (#92 overall player), Brock Bowers. Bowers out of Napa, California, chose the Dawgs over Notre Dame, Oregon, and Washington, among others. He appears to be more of a pass catching TE (and with a 4.5 40 and a 40 inch vertical, you would hope so) but is also a capable blocker. The commitment puts Georgia at #14 in the 247 rankings with only 12 of its available slots filled.
So with everything in flux, at least one thing remains certain... you can count on the Dawgs steadily moving up that board throughout the fall.
Until later...
GO DAWGS!!!
