Surprising news overnight, as Athens-Clarke County jail records indicate that former All-American safety and UGA graduate asssistant Bacarri Rambo was booked late Monday night on a charge of rape. No additional details have been released by police, though I anticipate more information and a statement from the University later today.
Update: Marc Weiszer of the Banner Herald has additional details, reporting that the incident which led to Rambo’s arrest occurred Saturday night at the Georgia Heights apartment complex on Broad Street. Weiszer has also confirmed with athletics officials that Rambo’s time on the football staff had concluded following the Sugar Bowl in January.
The former Seminole County standout and five year NFL veteran had spent the past two seasons as a defensive staffer on Kirby Smart’s staff, earning praise from players and coaches alike. While all criminals defendants are innocent until proven guilty, this certainly sounds like it has the potential to put the brakes on that promising coaching career.
We’ll have more information as it’s available. Until then...
