Gym Dogs Show No Love To Opponents

The Georgia Gymnastics Team felt the love from the Stegeman faithful Friday, as they hosted a tri-meet with Ball State and Eastern Michigan. They gave none of that love back to their opponents, scoring 197.075 and more than a 2 point margin.

Dominating in all four disciplines, the Gym Dogs improved steadily through the night and closed with a 49.500 on floor. Of course it was the floor-specialist Sabrina Vega who stole the show, carding her fifth consecutive 9.950 to win the event.

Athenians won the other events as well. Sophomores Rachel Lukacs and Mikayla Magee scored 9.900s on vault to share that title. Megan Roberts, also a sophomore, took the bars top score with a 9.900 of her own. Not to be outdone, Rachel Baumann (yes, also a sophomore) took the balance beam crown with an incredible 9.950.

The young ladies are really stepping up. With so many sophomores grabbing the spotlight, the future continues to be bright for Coach Courtney Kupets-Carter. A key road test is coming this Friday, as Georgia travels to Lexington to take on the Wildcats. It gets no easier as the Gators come to Athens the following week, then Georgia hits the road to face Alabama before closing the regular season at home hosting Mizzou. And as always...
