The annual “Kirby Close” continues apace.
Since arriving in Athens the Bulldog head coach has built a reputation on securing commitments from top notch prospects as Signing Day approaches. This season is no different, as the ‘Dawgs added a commitment this morning from arguably the state’s top remaining uncommitted prospect, Newton County corner Nyland Green.
Green chose the Red and Black over fellow finalists Clemson, Auburn, and Tennessee. His list of over 30 other offers reads like a who’s who of college football’s elite programs. That’s sort of what you’d expect from a player ranked among the top 75 prospects in the country regardless of position.
The 6’2, 183 pound Green is also rated the #5 cornerback in America, which is understandable when you put on his tape.
Green has the length the UGA coaches have always looked for in their corners, though as you can see from the above senior film Green also plays a good bit of safety as well. In that role he has great sideline range. When he does play man coverage he flips his hips well to run with receivers, but I’m particularly impressed with his ball skills. Green both high points the ball in the air and snags balls low, left and right. That ability to catch balls in a variety of body positions by the way is one of the reasons Richard LeCounte has become such an interception machine.
Green’s is the twentieth commitment for the class of 2021 for the Bulldogs, and moves them past LSU into 3rd position in the 247Sports Composite rankings. The final numbers remain a bit elusive, but I’d expect the Bulldogs to add 2-3 more players to this class. Regardless of how things finish, this one looks like a solid group, especially given the challenges of recruiting through a pandemic. Until later...
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
