Your Week 16 College Football TV Schedule

A truly bizarre conference championship weekend...

If I’m being honest, this is turning out to be a pretty crappy weekend for college football... and that’s a strange thing to say about a slate filled with conference championship games. But the thing is, we were promised games that in any other year would have never fallen on this weekend. Many of them, including Georgia/Vandy, Iowa/Michigan, Indiana/Purdue, have already vanished. Who knows how many will remain by Saturday. We have all kinds of shenanigans, with the B1G changing their championship game qualification rules for the Buckeyes and a team, Oregon, that didn’t earn a bid to it’s championship game playing in it anyway because the rightful quailifiers, the Washington Huskies, have a roster decimated by positive Covid tests and quarantines. So, yeah, there are a couple of great matchups this weekend, but it’s just not what it could have been... which sort of sums up 2020 in a nutshell. Let’s get to it:

And now for my viewing suggestions for each time slot:

FRIDAY

Oregon Ducks vs. #13 USC Trojans, FOX - 8:00 pm (PAC-12 Championship)

I don’t love the way we arrived at this matchup, but it’s still the best one of the evening.

SATURDAY NOON

#6 Iowa State Cyclones vs. #10 Oklahoma Sooners, ABC - 12:00 pm (Big12 Championship)

Iowa State tries to double up on victories against a resilient Sooners squad... a serious accomplishment under any circumstances. Go Cyclones!

SATURDAY AFTERNOON

#3 Clemson Tigers vs. #2 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, ABC - 3:30 pm (ACC Championship)

I can’t say I have a real rooting interest in this one, so I’ll just say this... imagine if Notre Dame sucked it up and just joined the conference. We could have championship games like this every year. As it stands, I’m sure Dabo won’t be too upset about going back to beating unranked PItt or (insert other ACC also-ran here) by 30+.

SATURDAY EVENING

#1 Alabama Crimson Tide vs. #7 Florida Gators, CBS - 8:00 pm (SEC Championship)

We always want Georgia to be playing in this game. Of course we do. That said, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to relaxing and watching Alabama take Dan Mullen behind the woodshed.

SATURDAY LATE

Arizona State Sun Devils @ Oregon State Beavers, ESPN - 10:30 pm

Just a regular, run-of-the-mill game here. But it’s the only one on and it does qualify as PAC-12 After Dark.

That’s all for now, folks.

Stay safe and healthy. Until later...

GOOOO DAWGS!!!
