Friday Dawg Bites Welcomes a Weekend Off

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: JAN 01 Sugar Bowl - Georgia v Baylor

Good morning, Dawg Nation. We have arrived at our sooner-than-expected bye week, and it’s probably come at a great time. After a rough outing against Alabama, we have two weeks to correct some issues from that game and get right for the home stretch where we need to win out (and especially beat Florida) to make it to the SEC Championship to face the Tide a second time.

Speaking of Tuscaloosa football players, the Dawgs picked up a commitment from cornerback Kamari Lassiter of American Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa. This is a solid commit for the Dawgs, as Lassiter also was considering Auburn, Clemson, and Georgia Tech.

In other recruiting news, five-star linebacker Smael Mondon from Paulding County has set a commitment date of November 18th. The Dawgs are very much in the running here and will have to fend off Auburn, Tennessee, LSU, and Florida to earn Mondon’s signature.

Regarding current Bulldogs, Coach Smart has indicated the quarterback J.T. Daniels’ mobility has been consistently improving. This could indicate two things: that Daniels hasn’t been ready to play in live action due to his surgically repaired knee, and that he may be inching closer to seeing the field. I’m by no means ready to shut the door on Stetson Bennett (run the dang ball when you’re gaining five yards a carry and help your first year starting quarterback out), but it wouldn’t shock me to see Daniels on the field before the end of the season.

I’m going to miss the Bulldogs this weekend, but it’ll be nice to have a weekend where I won’t be fretting about the outcome for the Silver Britches. Plus, after what the Braves and Dawgs did to me last week, I’m welcoming a weekend off… save for Atlanta United. If any of y’all will be at the Benz, I will see you there Rowdy and Proud.

As always - wash your hands, wear your masks, and GO DAWGS!!!
