Gym Dogs Meet Iowa State Today At Stegeman

Used with permission of georgiadogs.com

While most students and many fans may have a holiday today, the Gym Dogs will be hard at work as they face off against the Iowa State Cyclones at the Steg. In what has become an annual event, the Georgia Women’s Gymnastics Team has a home meet on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Georgia is coming off a loss to LSU last weekend, 196.725 - 196.150. The Gym Dogs are still trying different combinations after losing senior Rachel Dickson to injury just before the season started. The other senior, Sabrina Vega, continues to compete in all-around and anchor many of the routines.

A 49.325 on vault was a very promising start. Unfortunately bar as the 2nd rotation killed any early momentum, with the Gym Dogs counting falls and totaling 48.050. Vega then shouldered the load and carded a 9.900 on beam and a team total of 49.225. And the ladies pulled out all the stops with a team floor score of 49.550 (three Gym Dogs scoring 9.950). Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to defeat the visiting Bayou Bengals, though the freshmen for Coach Courtney Kupets-Carter continue to shine.

Today’s meet is at 2:00 pm ET, and will be broadcast on the SEC Network. You can also live stream the event at https://gado.gs/44o

And as always...

GO ‘DAWGS!!!
