Kirby Smart added another huge piece to the Bulldogs 2021 recruiting class this evening with the addition of Las Vegas athlete Darnell Washington, who committed during halftime of the Under Armour All-American game. Washington has been among the most highly sought after recruits in the country, and with good reason. He possesses a truly unfair combination of size and athleticism that will make him the first guy off the bus for seasons to come.
The big man ranked as the #10 prospect in America in the 247Sports composite possessed a list of offers commensurate with his stature, drawing interest from every major college football power you could name. Ultimately, he picked UGA over fellow finalists Alabama, Miami, and Tennessee. While Washington is nominally ranked as an athlete, it’s fairly clear that his position in college will be tied around. At 6 foot 7 1/2 and 261 pounds he’s already NFL sized. While some have speculated that Washington will be forced to move inside to tackle in college, this week at the UA game he’s repeatedly indicated that he believes he can stay at a tight end’s weight. I believe him because I’m scared to contradict him.
Every time I see someone on recruitnik Twitter say “he’s gonna end up on defense” I’m just going to gesture in the general direction of this tweet. https://t.co/3T2EUWj3cX

Washington becomes the highest ranked recruit in a class full of highly ranked players, and his commitment inches Georgia that much higher in the team rankings, moving the Red and Black past Ohio State and into third in 247Sports’ team rankings behind Alabama and Clemson.
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
