‘Dawgs Look To Extend Winning Streak Against Mississippi State

The UGA men’s basketball team looks to win back-to-back conference games for the first time in the Tom Crean era when they take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Starkville. Tip-off is at 8:30 Athens time on SEC Network.

The Bulldogs be looking to push their momentum without the services of freshman spark plug Sahvir Wheeler. The young point guard has averaged 8.2 points and 4.9 assists per game so far in his Georgia career but went down in the second half of the Tennessee game with an apparent ankle injury.

In his absence the ‘Dawgs will likely spend more time with senior Donnell Gresham or freshman Anthony Edwards at the point. A few items of note:

  • Edwards was named second team mid-season All-American by the Sporting News this week. Edwards leads the Red and Black in scoring at 19.1 points per game, is second on the team in assists, and third in rebounding.
  • This is Tom Crean’s first trip to Starkville as head coach at Georgia. I assume that means it’s his first trip ever because honestly why would he go there voluntarily?
  • Mississippi State will be the fifth team in a row on the Hoop Hounds’ schedule to have played in last year’s tournament. A win tonight would make the Red and Black a respectable 3-2 in that stretch. Until later...

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
