Gameday Morning Dawg Bites and Open Comment Thread

Good morning, Dawg Nation!

It’s a glorious day and it’s time for the Dawgs to open up Sanford Stadium for the season. Oh, excuse me. I mean it’s time for the Dawgs to open up Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium. I do enjoy the sound of that.

Let’s kick this thing off right:

And now for your Gameday Morning Dawg Bites:

  • First up (and in reference to the above), if you missed it a couple of days back, The Red & Black continues their uniformly excellent work with this story about how the news of the field name change was shared with the Dooley’s and the long, winding journey it took to get to this point.
  • Also popping up from the “In Case You Missed It” file, is the Week 2 Trailer from @GeorgiaFootball on Twitter. As usual, it’s fitting and excellent (if a little more subdued than we’re used to... which I’m going to chalk up to the matchup):
  • Georgia is adding additional facilities with construction beginning soon. Silly though the additional cost may seem, it’s a fact of life that this is now part of the cost of doing business if you want to keep up in the SEC. That said, if we only built a $79 million facility and the NCAA wasn’t composed of a bunch of self-interested jacklegs, every single football player on scholarship could earn a little over $11,000. So, you know, food for thought...
  • Looking for a few things to watch for as the Dawgs take on the Racers? Look, I get the reason for Murray State’s name... it’s very clever. But something about it when I type it just doesn’t sit right. Anyway, here you go.
  • You might have seen that 2020 DT prospect Jamil Burroughs de-committed from the Dawgs. Given the state of our recruiting over the last 2-3 years, I just can’t really find it in myself to be terribly bothered (although I certainly hope the young man finds the right fit for him). These are first world problems and I’m happy to have them.
  • If you’re anything like me, you’ve heard ad nauseam about how Eason and Fields performed last weekend (see also: the song selection above). But if you’re interested in how some other former Dawgs fared, Dawgs 247 has you covered.
  • Finally, if you are as big an R.E.M. fan as I am (which, frankly, I find hard to believe), the boys from Athens have a new 6-disc box set celebrating the 25th anniversary of Monster available for pre-order (God, I feel old). Monster is, in my estimation, an outstanding and underappreciated R.E.M. album which has aged incredibly well. I’d tell you to run out and listen to R.E.M.’s “rock album” right now, but then I’d be referring you to Green. Anyway, if any of you have any ideas about how I can convince my wife to let me spend 80 bucks on an album I already own on CD, vinyl, and (if you can believe it) cassette, I’m all ears.

This is your open comment thread for the gameday morning festivities. I’ll be working at the eldest son’s cross country meet this morning, but should be home and cooking by 10:30 or so. After that it’s nothing but what a Saturday in late summer/early autumn ought to be: All-day college football. Let us know how you’ll be spending the morning in preparation, what you think about today’s games, and about any other shenanigans you find yourself getting up to. If you watch the goobers on ESPN, you can chat about that as well, I suppose.

Macondawg will be back later on with additional comment threads for the games throughout the day (and of course Georgia’s contest with Murray State).

Until then...

GOOOO DAWGS!!!
