Brought to you by The Bye Week: Enjoy this short reprieve from the unbearable tension...

The first of two bye weeks is upon us. Now, I don’t know about you, but after last weekend I'm kind of okay with a stress-free Saturday. All the better to store some energy and prepare to get amped up for when the Dawgs inevitably take the Vols behind the woodshed. For now, we’ve got some other Saturday options. These are they:

Now on to the picks of your most interesting viewing options in each time slot...

Thursday

Navy Midshipmen @ Memphis Tigers, 8:00 p.m., ESPN

Y’all know I love me some service academy football... and both teams are undefeated thus far. You could do a lot worse for a Thursday night (and I’m sure you’ll have to again very soon).

Friday

#12 Penn State Nittany Lions @ Maryland Terrapins, 8:00 p.m., FS1

Please, oh please let James Franklin get his sorry tail whipped by a surprising (and apparently wildly inconsistent) Maryland team. I need the Maryland that destroyed Syracuse, not the one that lost to Temple. Please and thank you.

Noon

Texas Tech Red Raiders at #6 Oklahoma Sooners, 12:00 p.m., FOX

Man, there sure are a lot of really crappy noon games this week. I guess we’ll have to go with this one on the strength of Oklahoma’s ranking alone.

Afternoon

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets @ Temple Owls, 3:30 p.m., CBSSN

The correct answer for this time slot is obviously the #10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish hosting the #18 Virginia Cavaliers (3:30 p.m., NBC) or the #21 USC Trojans visiting the #17 Washington Huskies. But there is just something about this Geoff Collins guy. You just never know what kind of scrapes he’s going to find himself in or what kind of wacky hijinks he’s going to get up to next. It’s A+ quality entertainment.

Evening

#5 Ohio State Buckeyes @ Nebraska Cornhuskers, 7:30 p.m., ABC

While Nebraska’s seemingly perpetual rebuild obviously isn’t as far along as many had predicted, I’m hoping they can at least put up some kind of challenge for the Buckeyes. Lord knows it would be the first all season.

Late Night

Washington State Cougars @ #19 Utah Utes, 10:00 p.m., FS1

Ah, The Pirate and Pac-12 After Dark. All is as it should be.

That’s all for this week, folks. Until next time...

GOOOO DAWGS!!!
