A fresh and rested #6 Georgia squad will take on the #23 Ole Miss Rebels this afternoon with a berth in the SEC Tournament finale on the line.
The Diamond ‘Dawgs earned a fourth round bye and a slot in today’s semifinals with Thursday’s close victory over the #2 seed Arkansas Razorbacks. Pitching has been the story of the tournament for Scott Stricklin’s boys so far, something to which the Oxford nine can relate. They arrived in the semis by also beating Arkansas in a close one, a 3-2 affair yesterday.
The Rebel Black Bear Land Sharks will start junior right hander Houston Roth, who last took the mound in relief on Wednesday. The Red and Black will counter with a unique approach of pitching both ace starters Emerson Hancock and Tony Locey. UGASports.com has a interview with Coach Stricklin explaining his rationale for bringing out both of his big guns in this matchup which is worth a read.
The winner of today’s game will face the winner of #2 Vanderbilt and #17 LSU, the game that will follow ours. Today’s first pitch is at 1:00 p.m. Athens time on SEC Network. Until later . . .
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
