First Georgia had its most encouraging performance in weeks against Florida. Then its most discouraging against Missouri. Now Tom Crean’s team will look to finish the regular season on the road against South Carolina with nothing but pride on the line.
Wednesday’s home debacle against Missouri bruised more than the team’s ego. It also put a solid dent in the roster. The Dawgs’ second leading scorer, Rayshaun Hammonds, went down with a foot injury that will sideline him for the remainder of the short season (he’s already had surgery).
Georgia will still play in the SEC Tournament obviously, though it’s going to be a pretty tough draw for them to get out of the first round. South Carolina (15-15, 10-7 SEC) is a strong conference tournament performance away from at at-large tournament bid. It’s a bit of a long shot, but a win today would lock up a first round SEC Tournament bye.
The Hoop Hounds on the other hand are trying to avoid their first 16 conference loss season since 1974, and their first season winning fewer than 11 games since 1999-2000. Which would be nice.
Tipoff is at 1:00 p.m. on the SEC Network. Let’s, um, let’s just do a little better than last time out, okay?
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
