Tuesdays With Kirby: Spring Has Sprung

NCAA Football: Sugar Bowl-Georgia vs Texas Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

The Georgia Bulldogs kicked off spring practice today with a spirited afternoon session. But beforehand Coach Kirby Smart addresses the assembled media to talk about a variety of subjects including:

• How Georgia’s success in a variety of spring sports is noteworthy.

• Who’s in and who’s out from an injury standpoint this spring. I find the specific mention of Zamir White’s offseason work habits both noteworthy and encouraging.

• The emphasis on “havoc plays” this spring that will surely make the guys from Chapel Bell Curve pretty happy.

• His complicated relationship with Nick Saban. There’s some feelings searching. It’s all very cathartic. The truth is Saban is one of Smart’s mentors, Smart is one of Saban’s prized pupils.

But both are certainly keenly aware that their performance is evaluated in part based upon their record against the other. So far that’s a good thing for Saban.

Until later...
