Georgia filled out most of an impressive signing class during December’s early signing day. But there remains work to be done.
The Red and Black signed 22 players during the early period and appear to have room for as many as three to four more signees today. That being said, there’s no guarantee that Kirby & Co. will end up filling those slots.
Florida corner Kaiir Elam will choose from among Colorado, Florida, Georgia, and Miami at 1:00 p.m. Gator fans and Florida recruiting analysts appear pretty confident Elam winds up in Gainesville, but I wouldn’t rule the ‘Dawgs out of this one completely.
Clearwater, Florida tight end Brett Seither is set to announce between the ‘Dawgs and Alabama at 1:30 p.m. Both schools lost key players at the position from 2018, but Georgia has playing time to offer at a position decimated by graduation, NFL draft entry, and transfers.
Hyattsville, Maryland four star safety Nick Cross is set to announce at 2:15 from among FSU (to whom he’s been committed since September), Penn State, Maryland, and Georgia. I think the Bulldogs are a long shot for Cross, who might elect to stay close to home by joining the Nittany Lions.
The biggest target from a rankings standpoint left on the Bulldog recruiting board is five star Alabama receiver George Pickens. Georgia made a late push for the 6’5, 200 pound Hoover standout, but if he ends up somewhere other than Auburn it would be an upset.
The Silver Britches also made a late ply for Brandon, Mississippi receiver Jonathan Mingo, a long-time Ole Miss commit. The four star prospect took a visit to Athens, but prying him out of the Magnolia State looks like a tall order.
There’s also the possibility that we get news today on some of the graduate transfers the UGA staff have been pursuing, such as Miami receiver Lawrence Cager or Tennessee tight end Eli Wolf.
Unless I’ve missed it, Kirby Smart isn’t even planning a press conference this afternoon to talk about signings, which seems like a solid indication that he’s not expecting to have much to crow about. Or, he just doesn’t feel like talking to us. Who knows really?
Either way, we’ll be here to break any signing news as it happens, and recap the recruiting picture when the day is done. Until later...
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
