Tom Crean’s squad continues the long big slog through SEC play tonight when the Auburn Tigers come to town for a key conference matchup.
It’s key for the ‘Dawgs, who stand at 10-17, 1-13 in the SEC, because they’re looking to evade history. The Hoop Hounds have 4 conference games left and are within 3 defeats of the school record for most conference losses in a season (16). This year has been bad. It would be b yet if it isn’t the kind of bad memorialized in the record books.
Auburn on the other hand was tabbed as a conference title contender in the preseason but has struggled to a 7-7 conference record. The Tigers are squarely on the March Madness bubble, and popping that sucker would be sweet comfort for the Red and Black in an otherwise dismal campaign.
The Plainsmen appear set to take the floor without center Austin Wiley, who’s been hobbled for much of the new year with a foot injury. It will be interesting to see if Wiley’s 8.2 points and 4.9 rebounds are missed against a UGA squad that will try to feed the big men in the 6’11, 260 pound Wiley’s absence.
Tipoff is set for 9:00 pm Athens time on ESPNU. Until later...
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
