Georgia junior safety Richard LeCounte was among a number of Bulldog players who fielded questions about their futures on Saturday night. LeCounte also talked a little about where things went wrong for the Georgia defense against LSU, and about Kirby Smart’s expectations for his defensive backs.
There are a ton of juniors and redshirt sophomores on this team who’ll soon confront the decision of whether to return to Athens or make a run at the NFL. LeCounte’s may be among the most important. He emerged as a leader on the Red and Black defense in 2019, growing into the expectations coaches have had for him since he signed as one of the “Savages” in Smart’s 2017 class. In my mind the UGA defense looks a lot different if LeCounte, Monty Rice, and Eric Stokes return versus deciding to leave. And while there are talented young players at both inside linebacker and corner, LeCounte’s versatility and experience would be tough to replace. Until later...
