Further Adventures In Bowl Season: Herm Edwards and other GOATS.

It’s another full day of bowl action starting at noon with quite possibly the last Belk Bowl ever. The regional department store chain is ending its sponsorship relationship with the Charlotte bowl after today’s matchup between Virginia Tech and Kentucky, airing on ESPN. We’ll miss the modern, Southern styled bowl but look forward to the game hopefully acquiring a new title sponsor. This game is usually an entertaining, competitive matchup of good ACC/SEC opponents, and today should be no different.

At 2:00 pm Athens time CBS has the Tony the Tiger Arizona Bowl, pitting Florida State and Arizona State, two programs which underwent vastly different seasons. FSU of course parted company with touted head coach Willie Taggart after less than two seasons. The Sun Devils continue to overachieve under the leadership of NFL veteran Herm Edwards. If I’d told you in August 2018 that these teams would face each other in a bowl and one of them would have a new coaching regime coming in there’s no way you’d have picked the Herminator as the survivor. Life is funny that way.

The Autozone Liberty Bowl kicks off at 3:45 and pairs the Navy Midshipmen against Kansas State on ESPN. This could be a sneaky fun game between two very different yet entertaining offensive football teams.

There’s also a slate of evening games, and we may post another thread for those if this one gets unwieldy. Suffice it to say Georgia State and Wyoming are playing later on the CBS Sports Network and I’m tuning in just to see what that looks like. Until later...

Go ‘Dawgs!!!!
