NCAA Football: Heisman Trophy Presentation Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Ed Orgeron and his Bayou Bengals will take the field for the first time in the College Football Playoff this afternoon against one of the Playoff’s frequent fliers.

Oklahoma is back in the playoff for the third time with the Sooners’ third different quarterback. For his part Jalen Hurts is looking to become the first quarterback to win playoff games as a starter for two different teams as part of what has to be one of the most unique and successful careers in recent college football history.

Kickoff is at 4:00 pm (plus or minus some pregame hoopla) in Mercedes-Benz Stadium with television coverage on ESPN. LSU behind Heisman winner Joe Burrow comes in as a 13.5 point favorite. Personally, I expect the Tigers to win this one. While Oklahoma’s defense may be somewhat improved under new DC Alex Grinch, it isn’t that much better than past iterations.

That being said, I think Jalen Hurts is a multi-dimensional matchup problem for the Tigers as well. Prediction: The Tigahs win but don’t cover in a 41-31 offensive shootout that makes Kirby Smart grab his head like Ben Kenobi experiencing a great disturbance in the Force.

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
