Welcome to Tuesday, Bulldog Fans! In case you didn’t know, I spent my formative years in the 80’s (emotional development was thwarted during the same span). As such, I will try to bring you the best** music from this seminal decade that gave us the Outback Bowl (shudder).
Nothing good happens after midnight. An oft-repeated phrase through the 80’s and early 90’s while still under my parent’s roof/financially supporting thumb. The truth is, if you’re not holed up somewhere with people you care about; which could be your bros, your girls, a special someone, or just a Mr./Mrs. Right Now; then bad things are more likely to happen. That became glaringly obvious to a millionaire’s little brother - UGA’s own James Cook. It appears there were some poor choices made, and they decided to run with the shadows of the night. Until they parked it in a handicap parking space.
(The video is going through some “copyright” issues, and/or imagery in the original is viewed as not tasteful in the current environment. If you’re too young to remember, then... that’s a shame.)
Now onto news and notes of the Georgia Bulldog variety:
Georgia will face the Baylor Bears in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day 2020. Because of that, and I’m guessing here, Baylor started to practice the football. The Bears are also coming off a loss in their last game, so we will see who is the more motivated team in two weeks.
Our SBNation sister site, Our Daily Bears, has put up a couple of good football season reviews. Nevermind, don’t click that link. I’ll be stealing most of the content once I start worrying about Baylor.
Instead, read this brief written by the intrepid scoops at the Red and Black. They could use the clicks.
A little good news, as the AP released their first team All-Americans today. Both Andrew Thomas (OL) and J.R. Reed (DB) from Georgia were named. My biggest takeaway regards Kentucky’s Lynn Bowden. If you’re a receiver on a mediocre football team but want to stand out, make sure the quarterbacks don’t see the field. Establish yourself as the leading receiver, then take all the snaps yourself and don’t throw it to anyone. You’ll end up leading the team in both rushing and receiving. Ingenious. I tip my hat to thee.
Once you crawl out from under that rock, you will first notice that Wednesday begins the early signing period for college football. Year 3 of this horrible crime against humanity experiment should provide plenty of fireworks. Macondawg got you warmed up with some predictions and names to watch. Get your primer here, but stay tuned to Dawg Sports as we will try our darndest to keep up with all the action.
The football team isn’t the only one to hold a pre-season Red & Black game. The Gym Dogs provide a “first look” tonight at the Steg, staging a team loaded with youthful experience. They did not lose many gymnasts to graduation, so they bring back ladies used to the bright lights of big matches.
Women’s basketball hosts UCLA Thursday night, and the men’s team will tip off against visiting Southern Methodist Friday. This is fresh off a road butt-whoopin’ in Tempe over the weekend.
That’s it for now. We’ll try to continue to take your mind off your troubles with more news and analysis throughout the day. And as always...
GO ‘DAWGS!!!
