The National View Week 14

NCAA Football: Georgia at Georgia Tech Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Bulldog Faithful has a long, storied history of “Munsoning.” For those weaned to the sounds of the unequaled Larry Munson, the notion of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory must be ever-present or we just don’t feel right. The question on everyone’s mind week in and week out this season will be, did Georgia help or hurt their chances of making it to the playoffs? That question isn’t likely to be answered inside the Dawgosphere, so I thought I’d wander about the interwebs and see what the larger College Football Media has to say. After all, the National Sports Media likely has more influence over the Committee than the Dawgosphere does.

Opponent’s Home Media AJC: An imperfect UGA wins by 45, which says something

“Everything is an eyeball test, and Georgia doesn’t set many eyes dancing. It’s a buttoned-down team. It plays defense. It runs the ball. It wears opponents down.”

24/7 Sports: Georgia is an underdog in the 2019 SEC Championship vs LSU

“On Sunday, the Dawgs opened as 6-point underdogs to the Tigers via Circa Sports, marking the first time that Georgia has not been favored this season.”

ESPN: No. 4 Georgia closes regular season with 52-7 rout of Tech

“…A stellar defense gives Georgia a shot in every game.”

CBS Sports: College Football Playoff, bowl predictions: Paths for the seven remaining contenders

“Beat LSU to win the SEC and Georgia is in the playoff. However, if Armageddon occurs, the Bulldogs might even get in with two losses.”

Yahoo News: Battle tested

“’Georgia’s defense is that all 11 ‘hats’ get to the football. They do a tremendous job of tackling, and hustling to the ball.’”

Georgia remains in the #4 slot in the AP Poll and with the win over Tech, and no losses by the top 3, we will likely retain that ranking. Win the SECCG and we’re definitely in the playoffs. Lose a close one to LSU and we’re at the mercy of the committee. Last week I wondered what would happen if Auburn beat Bama. Well that happened.. According to the 538 predictors, we have a 46% chance of making the playoffs and a 43% chance of beating LSU. In other words, we’d need some help from Virginia, Wisconsin, or Baylor.

GO DAWGS! BEAT E’RYBODY!
