The Hoop Hounds overcame a sluggish start tonight to down the visiting Western Carolina Catamounts 91-72.
Freshman Anthony Edwards was as advertised, throwing down 24 points and snatching 9 rebounds before fouling out with a little over two minutes left in the game. Things didn’t start out that great with Georgia shooting a messy 36% from the field in the first half to trail 38-37 at intermission. But Edwards and fellow freshman Sahvir Wheeler (who chipped in 19 points) just wouldn’t let the Red and Black lose this one.
If there’s a lesson to be taken from this one, and I’d hesitate to take too much from a season opener against a SoCon school, it’s that Edwards will likely be the centerpiece of this team. But it remains to be seen what pieces will slot in around him.
That being said, a win is a win and the ‘‘Dawgs are 1-0. They’ll return to action next Tuesday night back in the Stege against the Citadel. Until later...
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
