You don’t hang half a hundred on little brother in their own tiny house without some players stepping up. Those players, the ones who truly run this state, are the MVDs, the Most Valuable ‘Dawgs.
Offense: Jake Fromm. He’s still not completing 50% of his passes and he was lucky not to be picked off on that first drive. Twice.
But in the end Jake Fromm ties his career best for touchdown passes, throwing for four impressive scores. He hasn’t forgotten how to do that. He’s going to need to find someone to throw some of those to next Saturday in the Benz.
Defense: Monty Rice. The junior inside linebacker finished the day with 8 solo tackles, easily tops on the team. He also defended a pass and rerouted at least two plays in pursuit by getting to the outside. The Bulldog defense absolutely smothered the Jackets, including allowing 2.7 yards per rush, and Rice had as much to do with that as anyone.
Special teams: Jake Camarda. Dominick Blaylock has a couple of nifty punt returns but also the fumble that led directly to the Gnats’ only points of the day. Camarda on the other hand had another flawless day, averaging 46.3 yards per punt and downing 3 of his 4 kicks inside the 20. The LSU offense doesn’t need any help getting to the end zone. A sharp performance by Camarda next week, forcing them to go 80+ with regularity, will be critical to securing an SEC title. Until later...
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
