Georgia weathered an underwhelming second quarter in which they turned it over twice and lost an onside kick to only give up seven points and stake themselves to a 17-7 halftime lead.
Georgia holds a commanding 222-75 yard edge in total yardage and a solid 12-3 lead in first downs. But it doesn’t feel like this offense is on pace to roll up 450 yards. Jake Fromm has overcome a putrid start to reach a merely pedestrian 8 of 18 passing for 105 yards.
Tyler Simmons has been Fromm’s top target, relatively speaking, with two catches for 35 yards. D’Andre Swift and Brian Herrien have each broken off some big runs and the ‘Dawgs have rolled up 117 yards on the ground.
The Athenians will get the ball to start the second half looking to retake control of this game and salt it away. If you were looking for the Red and Black to put together a tidy dress rehearsal for the SEC Championship Game, my sympathies. Let’s just win this one and worry about the next one tomorrow.
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
