The Bulldog Faithful has a long, storied history of “Munsoning.” For those weaned to the sounds of the unequaled Larry Munson, the notion of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory must be ever-present or we just don’t feel right. The question on everyone’s mind week in and week out this season will be, did Georgia help or hurt their chances of making it to the playoffs? That question isn’t likely to be answered inside the Dawgosphere, so I thought I’d wander about the interwebs and see what the larger College Football Media has to say. After all, the National Sports Media likely has more influence over the Committee than the Dawgosphere does.
Opponent’s Home Media Gainesville Sun: Gators were out of sorts from the beginning
“There were a lot of angry and disappointed people wearing orange and blue leaving TIAA Bank Field on Saturday night. One of them was Mullen, who blew up on receivers coach Billy Gonzales after one personnel mistake and at defensive coordinator Todd Grantham after, like the 300th Georgia third-down conversion.” Editors Note: I don’t know about you but that feels delicious.
24/7 Sports: Georgia Game Balls: Lawrence Cager shines in return
“Georgia notched a massive 24-17 win over Florida on Saturday.”

“The win puts Georgia squarely back in the College Football Playoff picture, one step closer to a league title game berth vs. likely the LSU-Alabama winner in December.”
ESPN: Jake Fromm leads Georgia past Florida for second straight year
“Georgia: After consecutive lackluster performances at home, the Bulldogs looked much more like a team that can make the CFP.”
CBS Sports: Georgia sends a message as it silences doubters, finds answers in must-win game vs. Florida
“The College Football Playoff Selection Committee is not going to keep a 12-1 Georgia as SEC champion out of the playoff, the South Carolina loss be damned.”
Yahoo News: No. 8 Georgia takes control of SEC East with win over No. 6 Florida
“The Bulldogs are also still in prime position for a College Football Playoff spot. While Georgia won’t be in the top four when the first set of rankings is released on Tuesday, the Bulldogs control their own playoff destiny. An undefeated November and a win in the SEC championship game will certainly put Georgia in the playoff for the second time in three seasons.”
As the saying goes, good teams win, great teams cover. We did both tonight in what for many Bulldog fans is the most important game each year.
24/7 Sports has it exactly right. This was a massive win and one that puts us “squarely back in the College Football Playoff picture.” We still need to win out, that fact is unchanged from day 1 of the season. We’re in the driver’s seat and all the goals are still within reach. Winning out means we need to beat Mizzou, Auburn, Texas A&M and the North Avenue Trade School and then whichever SEC West team shows up in Atlanta. Five more weeks, five more games, and five more wins to punch our ticket to the playoffs.
I think CBS Sports is spot on, a 12-1 SEC Champion team will be in the CFP. Can this years Georgia Bulldogs win out from here? I don’t know. Tonight, Coach Smart was clear when he said, “Don’t doubt Jake Fromm.” I’m certainly not going to bet against him or this team.
