Following a 23-20 win over Auburn LSU has satisfied poll voters that it is the top team in the nation. With resume-building top ten wins over Florida and the Plainsmen the Bayou Bengals have made a pretty compelling case for the top spot. I can’t really argue. Fans of every SEC school, including the Crimson Tide, now have the Garblin’ Orgerons in the top spot. Yawyaw foobaw, everybody!
It now appears that next week’s Alabama/LSU matchup will pit the #1 and #2 teams in our poll against each other. With #6 Florida and #7 Georgia squaring off this weekend it’s likely that the SEC’s East and West divisions could be all but decided a full month before the league title game.
Clemson and Ohio State remain on autopilot, cruising through their respective conference schedules and accruing style points with ease. It appears that FanPulse voters have collectively given up on keeping either team out of the top four. #5 Penn State will get a chance to jump the Buckeyes when the two face off on November 23rd.
Further back in the pack we seem to have escaped some of the really aberrant results we saw in early polls, with teams in the 20s losing and moving up, etc. I think it is noteworthy that FanPulse voters have the Appalachian State Mountaineers at #17, a solid three slots ahead of AP voters. Call it “the Boone bounce.”
Among individual site results of note, Dawg Sports readers picked the top nine teams in the same order as the aggregate results, which I think means that y’all are either the most knowledgeable fan base in college football, the most reasonable, or both. (Edit: here’s your full top 15).

Georgia Tech partisans on From the Rumble Seat now have Georgia at #17, by comparison. That’s one spot below Appalachian State, two slots below SMU, and three behind the two loss Notre Dame team the ‘Dawgs beat less than a month ago.. You can always count on the nerds to be both spitefully juvenile and ignorant of what’s going on around them. Personally I find that level of consistency comforting.

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
