Sugar Bowl First Quarter Open Thread: Time To Prove It On The Field

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: DEC 01 SEC Championship Game - Georgia v Alabama Photo by Todd Kirkland/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

It’s time to put a bow on the Georgia Bulldogs’ 2018 college football season. There have been ups, there have been downs. And while it’s tempting to portray bowl games as merely showy made-for-TV exhibitions, there is something to be said for building momentum heading into the new season.

What’s more, Georgia fans have done a good bit of crowing in the wake of Notre Dame and Oklahoma’s apparent decision not to participate in the college football playoff semifinals. It would be a bad look for the ‘Dawgs to fall flat in this, their best chance to prove that they did in fact belong on the playoff stage.

I don’t think that is going to happen. Rather, I look for a Bulldog team with something to prove to come out swinging. The Bulldogs need to establish the tone on defense, and need Jake Fromm to play the kind of sharp football he flashed in the SEC Championship Game. The Red and Black have a solid edge on the lines of scrimmage, if they can match the Longhorns’ skill position talent, this one could be fun. Let’s do it!

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
