Regardless of the coaching era, Georgia’s imprint on the football landscape continues to be strong on professional football’s biggest stage.
Here’s a few highlights from week one of the NFL season.
In true Georgia defensive player fashion, Shawn Williams was ejected from the Bengals season-opener for a helmet hit on Colts quarterback Andrew Luck. Williams claimed the hit was incidental. Corey Moore also had a tackle for the Colts in the loss.

Williams wasn’t the only for Bulldog coming out on the winning side of Cincy’s 24-23 win with both Geno Atkins on defense and Clint Boling on offense helping the Bengals win the game in the trenches. AJ Green also had 6 catches for 92 yards and a touchdown.

Of course, the highlight for Georgia fans had to be Roquan Smith on Sunday night as he registered a sack on his first snap. Pretty sure the Bears are not too worried about any misplaced playbooks at this point...
Down in the Big Easy, Ben Watson was part of a big offensive day for the Saints, but the Bucs had an even bigger showcase of scoring in a 48-40 Tampa win.
On the other side of the coin, Matthew Stafford had a rather forgettable night on Monday in 48-17 loss to the Jets, throwing four interceptions. Jordan Jenkins came out on the winning side, coming up with two tackles for the Jets.
The Giants - Jaguars game had its share of Georgia tie-ins. The G-Men’s defense feature new addition Alec Ogletree registering seven tackles and Lorenzo Carter getting a tackle in his NFL debut. Another for Georgia defender, Abry Jones, got the win on the Jaguars defense, making two tackles.

The Dolphins logged a 27-20 win against the Titans. Two interceptions by Reshad Jones were a major reason why. As for the Titans, Ben Jones helped them to 20 points on the Tennessee offensive line.

In addition, Garrison Smith had a tackle for Arizona, Justin Houston had a single one for Kansas City, Chris Conley hauled in a 15-yard pass for the Chiefs and David Andrews once again helped anchor the Patriots offensive line.
Nick Chubb’s three rushes for 21 yards helped the Browns tie the Steelers. Maybe Cleveland should have run the Wild Dog in OT?
