MVDs: Most Valuable ‘Dawgs

All ‘Dawgs are created equal. But every Saturday a handful distinguish themselves in ways that deserve special recognition. They are the MVDs: most valuable ‘Dawgs.

Offense: The offensive line. Sure, Jake Fromm had a pleasantly efficient afternoon. D’Andre Swift had a nice day. Mecole Hardman and Demetrius Robertson each got a start on their 2018 highlight video. But the common denominator for each was the guys up front.

Defense: Natrez Patrick. Again, when the defense pitches a shut out and gives up only 61 yards passing there are plenty of attaboys to go around. But Patrick’s forced fumble (recovered by D’Andre Walker) led to seven points and seemed to really set the tone physically for a defense that had some mental errors but put forth a good effort.

Special teams: Rodrigo Blankenship. In Rod we trust. Blankenship has become so achingly reliable that it's easy to forget how unreliable other college kickers can be. Today however he was literally perfect. Hot Rod hit his only field goal attempt. And 6 of 6 extra points. He kicked off 8 times. Every single one was a touchback. That’s just a thing of beauty.

Until later...

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
