There are reasons. And there are excuses. And sometimes (for the benefit of the ohio state university Board of Trustees) there are No Excuses.
(Layin’ low, want to take it slow; No more hiding or disguising truths I’ve sold.)
And that’s all I’ll say about that. On to Unviersity of Georgia Athletics:
In case you didn’t know, the Georgia Bulldogs are practicing the football. And Coach Kirby Smart keeps a short leash on those who are allowed to see it. If you want to break down 14 minutes of some drills, the Red and Black does it proudly.
Wednesday’s practice apparently had some noticeable absences, and Seth Emerson reported on who he didn’t see. He is still writing well and prodigiously about the Bulldogs, but once he sought solace Beyond The (pay)Wall, I’’ll link instead to his free tweets.
UGA’s running game seems to be a topic of interest. First it was how to replace Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, then it was because we were loaded for bear with a veritable stable of horses, now it’s concern after Zamir White’s ACL tear. I’m not worried, and others share my sentiment. If you demand further proof of my optimism, you can read this.
Renowned college football analyst and Georgia defense stat padder Kirk Herbstreit threw some love at Georgia Coach Kirby Smart recently. Then his stream of consciousness dipped into the opiod pool and he came out just plain crazy. James Franklin? No thank you, sir. Now go back and pencil in your hairline some more.
On a distantly-related injury note, our favorite Notebook de Verde connoisseur seems to be back in the saddle, just in time for their game this Saturday. Get the Dang Continued Recovery, Bobo!
In Beyond The Hedges news:
UGA is stocking the professional golf ranks. Not only did Bubba Watson win 3 times on the PGA Tour this year, not only will he represent the USA in the Ryder Cup, he was one of 7 former Bulldogs to make the PGA Tour season-ending FedEx Cup playoffs. Kevin Kisner is under consideration for the Ryder Cup as well.
More recent Georgia graduates Joey Garber and Sepp Straka each won a tournament on the Web.com Tour (development tour) in the last few months and Garber has been promoted to the PGA Tour next season, with Straka in great position to join him.
It’s not just football season in the Classic City (it’s always golf season). Volleyball is continuing to make strides, and Women’s Soccer secured their first victory of the season.
Continuing the great Track & Field tradition in Athens, UGA was also well-represented at the recent European Championships.
We’ll be back later with more news and analysis. In the meantime, and as always...
