‘Dawgs chasing a Deacon at the Greenbrier

Five former Georgia Bulldogs came to the storied Greenbrier resort this week to take on the Old White TPC course. While they generally acquitted themselves well, all are staring up the leaderboard at a Wake Forest Demon Deacon who couldn't miss on Thursday.

Webb Simpson carded a nine under par 61 to lead after the first day in the West Virginia hills. A thunderstorm that caused a relatively brief delay was the only thing that stopped Simpson’s assault on the course that Sam Snead built. Three other golfers, led by Whee Kim at -8, also posted scores of 64 or better on a course that played fairly forgivingly early and late.

Harris English and Brian Harman sit tied with a host of others at -3. Bubba Watson and Russell Henley are tied for 44th another shot back at -2. Finally Kevin Kisner is hanging in there at -1 (tied for 64th).

While none of the Red and Black contingent is necessarily within easy striking distance of the lead, none is out of contention to make the 36 hole cut either. With a little luck, we could once again see a whole battalion of Bulldogs playing for big money come Sunday. Until later...

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
