US Open Day Three: Henley and Harman Hanging On

The USGA occasionally likes to remind the tour pros what it feels like to be a duffer like you and I. This week they have succeeded splendidly.

Dustin Johnson is the lone golfer under par headed to the weekend, sitting -4 and four shots ahead of the field. Scott Piercy and Charlie Hoffman sit tied for second at even par. Johnson has been dialed in, but with Shinnecock’s current mercurial layout even a four shot lead seems one disastrous hole from evaporating.

Russell Henley, the co-leader coming into day two, is the top ‘Dawg at +2, tied for ninth with Rickie Fowler. Brian Harman sits in a tie for fourteenth at +4. It’s hard to say that either is truly out of contention. However, with so many proven major title winners at the top of the leaderboard mounting a charge won’t be easy.

Then again, every golfer in the field is really only one trip to the rough away from disappearing until Labor Day. TV coverage of round three begins at 11:00 am eastern on FOX. And you can stream live right now on USOpen.com. Until later...

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
