Georgia looks to build some momentum against Mississippi State

Georgia looks to get back to the .500 mark in SEC play today against Mississippi State.

Fresh off of an upset win over Florida, Georgia will hit the road again on Saturday when they travel to Starkville to face Mississippi State.

Georgia used a big second half on Tuesday to stop the bleeding in a 72-60 win over the Gators. The Bulldogs came into that game having lost five out of six and had saw their tournament hopes put on life support.

Georgia and Mississippi State are two of six teams that are all 4-5 in SEC play entering Saturday. The Bulldogs are 51st in the country in RPI and just slightly better than State who are 54th.

The Bulldogs used a good defensive effort to hold off the Gators on Tuesday. Georgia limited Florida to just 36 percent shooting. Yante Maten led the way with 20 points and seven rebounds while Turtle Jackson added 16.

MIssissippi State enters Saturday’s game having won two straight snapping their own five loss in six games stretch. The Starkville Bulldogs defeated Missouri this past Saturday and pulled off a big road win at South Carolina on Tuesday. Nick and Quinndary Weatherspoon combined for 35 points in the win over the Gamecocks while Abdul Ado chipped in 16.

Saturday’s game will feature the two best defensive teams in the SEC. MSU allows 65.7 points per game while Georgia is right there at 65.8. Georgia has held opponents to just 39 percent shooting this season which is currently the sixth best mark in the NCAA.
