Wednesday will be the final regular season home game for seniors Yante Maten, Juwan Parker and Pape Diatta as Georgia takes on Texas A&M in an important SEC matchup.
The Bulldogs enter the game at 16-12 with a 7-9 mark in conference play. The Aggies are 18-11 and tied with Georgia and LSU at 7-9.
Per ESPN, Georgia enters Wednesday 70th in RPI and 10th in the conference. Texas A&M is 26th in the nation and fourth in the SEC so Wednesday’s game is another opportunity for the Bulldogs to strengthen their resume.
Georgia has won three of its last four games with the only setback coming on the road at South Carolina. They knocked off LSU on Saturday to improve to 11-3 at Stegeman Coliseum this season.
The Bulldogs set a season-high with 93 points against the Tigers. Maten turned in another huge performance logging his 12th double-double of the season with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Derek Ogbeide returned to the starting lineup and logged a double-double of his own with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The biggest lift though perhaps came from freshman Rayshaun Hammonds who turned in one of his best performances of the season with a 21-point outburst off the bench. Hammonds’ role has been inconsistent of late going from in and out of the starting lineup to in and out of the rotation. He knocked down 7-12 field goal attempts against LSU and Georgia desperately needs his offense to go along with Maten.
Texas A&M comes into the game struggling although they were able to halt a three-game losing streak with a win over Vanderbilt on Saturday. The Aggies dropped games Missouri and Arkansas on the road and also fell at home to Mississippi State.
They jumped out to an early lead Saturday against the Commodores and were able to hold on late behind a balanced offensive effort. Tyler Davis led four different players in double figures with 22 points while TJ Starks added 18. Davis leads the team averaging 14.6 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
Georgia’s seniors will be honored in a ceremony prior to the game. Tip off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on the SEC Network.
