Bubba Watson leading down the homestretch at Riviera

Only two former Georgia Bulldogs are contesting the Genesis Open this weekend at Riviera Country Club in scenic Pacific Palisades, California. One, Harris English, failed to make the cut after finishing Friday at five over par. To be fair, that was one shot better than Tiger Woods (though that is a distinction which doesn’t mean quite as much as it used to).

The other, Bubba Watson, however, finds himself with a one-shot lead at ten under par headed into the final round. Watson played in the NBA All-Star celebrity game Friday night. He then came out blazing on Saturday, shooting a 65 that included an eagle on his first hole. Maybe he should get Mutombo’d by Tracy McGrady more often.

Bubba will tee off at 1:10 ET along with Patrick Cantlay (low amateur during one of Watson’s Masters wins). Cantlay, a UCLA grad, is looking to become the third Bruin to win the storied tourney played only a few miles from their campus. Bubba is ironically looking for his third win at Riviera, having won this tournament in 2014 and 2016 when it was known as the Northern Trust Open.

Television coverage begins on the Golf Channel at 1 PM then shifts over to CBS at three Eastern.
