Georgia football players have been using the Bulldogs’ new indoor practice facility for long enough that I’m not sure we can call it "new" anymore. But it’s definitely getting a new name.
Henceforth the spacious confines will be known as the William & Porter Payne Indoor Athletic Facility, honoring a pair of former Georgia football players. William "Billy" Payne is if course most well-known nationally for chairing the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Committee and serving as Chairman of the Augusta National Golf Club from 2006 to 2017.
But he was also a member of one of Vince Dooley’s first signing classes in Athens, and eventually an All-SEC defensive end. Payne’s father Porter, for whom the facility will also be christened, was a Bulldog letterman, and a captain of the 1949 team coached by Wally Butts.
The House of Payne is in effect, y’all. Until later...
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
